Santorini — Throngs and Thongs

July 7, 2019, Oia, Santorini, Greece — I’d been warned, don’t go to Oia at sunset. But I didn’t listen. A few other singers took the cable car from the dock up up up to a different village and they were charmed. I took the bus from the dock...

... up up up...

...past these grape vines. Yes, grapes vines. Not strung up on supports, à la France, but twined into coils on the ground. There is no irrigation, and so little rain, the vines depend on the morning dew for water...

... to get this view...

There were lots of interesting shops...

(and not-so-interesting shops), but too many people to turn around. At the bus corral meeting point for the trek back down, one bus driver enterprisingly cleaned his bus...

...before we hair-pinned our way down to the dock. Imagine a bus and a semi passing on this curve!

One ‘view ’ I did not shoot within the throngs was the thonged- and bikini-clad damsels parading through the alleyways, all willowy, freshly Brazilian-waxed and dangerously well-tanned.

Next day: One more excursion to fill time between disembarkation and take-off for home. #
