Pirate Code of Conduct
Since I’m still in pirate waters and have a lot more work to do on my Brazil posts, here’s a little snack to tide you over...
The first image of a pirate was in a 12th-century B.C. Egyptian hieroglyph, and over the centuries, becoming a pirate was a decent job opportunity for young men who couldn’t find other work that could potentially pay so well.
And there was some shred of honor among thieves...
• No prey, no pay
• One man, one vote*
• Equal provisions for all
• No cards or dice
• No boys or women
• Quarrels to be settled ashore
• Lights out at 8
• Musicians rest on Sunday
* A crew could vote their captain out of office and elect his replacement! #
