‘Bom Dias’ da Brasil, parte 2
January 18, Amaçao dos Búzios — I could have chosen to pay for an optional tour and snorkeled off a catamaran but instead I did the ‘included’ (no extra charge) walkabout in the little beach resort of Amaçao dos Búzios. I shoulda snorkeled. Our Cruise Director told us she’s like to spend a two-week vacation in this sleepy little town. I’d go crazy by Day 3.
History, such as it is: The town was known for smuggling, slave-trading and whaling. It has 23 beaches. Brigitte Bardot spent two weeks here in the ’60s — she came to escape the Rio paparazzi — and put the place on the map. Other celebrities followed. I saw none. Bardot is immortalized on this dumpster:
And this bronze statue. She’s sitting on her suitcase... apparently she was as anxious to leave as I was.
We had a lovely young guide, Luisa, a college student who started studying English when she was 6. Her English is excellent — but there wasn’t much to tell us, so here are a few more photos...
Sweet little church by a flame tree.
First selfie stick I’ve seen this trip.
Home sweet home at anchor behind these fishermen — who are made of bronze.
By the way, not all Vikings look alike. This is another member of our blogger group, Hippie Bob.
This is the easiest post I’ve written yet. #
