Buenos dias, San Juan

December 20, 2019, San Juan, Puerto Rico — Uneventful trip from Boston yesterday. Though after a 3:40 a.m. alarm (four of them, to tell the truth) in order to catch the 5:30 shuttle to Logan, I slept 11-½ hours last night. View from my room at the Caribe Hilton, where I’m staying 2 nights before embarking on the Viking Sea:

The waiter last night asked if I’d like dessert... I shook my head. He said the magic word: ‘Flan?’ Now flan is the national dessert of Spain, so Puerto Rican flan must be good, si? I have a motto: If it isn’t chocolate, it isn’t dessert... unless it’s New York cheesecake... or crème brûlée. And flan is basically Spanish crème brûlée, no?

But, Rosa, from my Newburyport Study Class, it wasn’t your mother’s secret flan recipe. Yours still takes the cake. So to speak!

Woke up in time for the 9 a.m yoga class on the beach — a first for me, even though I live only 8 miles from the beach at Plum Island.

The view from the final supine pose, shavasana. Ahhhhhhhh.

p.s. I spent 9 years in the book publishing business, and I still follow the industry. This, just in, from CNN's morning e-mail, ‘5 Things You Need to Know to Get Up to Speed and Out the Door’:

The 3 'Fifty Shades of Grey' books are the top 3 bestselling books of the decade

We hope you're proud of yourselves.

More about San Juan and Puerto Rico later. #
