Oz
February 8-21, 2018

Onward to Australia, the land of Oz, across the ‘Roaring Forties’ of the Tasman Sea — so rough one passenger needed 6 stitches when his TV fell off the wall and hit him on the head.
Survey: Which says ‘Oz’ more?

OR

First Oz stop, Melbourne, ‘has been called the world’s most livable city.’ I don't know by whom, but it is a nice city. During its Gold Rush in the mid 1800’s, it was one of the largest and wealthiest cities in the world.

Not all the buildings are new...

The iconic (as they say) Sydney Opera House, where I attended opening night... saw a modern and very fun ‘Carmen.’

Sydney’s QVB — the 1898 Queen Victoria Building. Designed as a marketplace, it fell into disrepair but has been re-furbed as a posh shopping emporium — with a bold palette!

All I wanted to do in Brisbane was meet a koala. He was less interested in meeting me.

At the same Koala Sanctuary and wildlife park. While the mother set up her camera, one of our passengers helped her little girl feed the little roo.

Great Barrier Reef snorkeling excursion out of Cairns (say ‘cans’). Because we were not motored out to the best part of the reef, I actually enjoyed stinger-suit-less snorkeling in Bora Bora more.

On Sunday we went to Thursday. Island that is. A very sleepy town on a very sleepy island, where we were entertained with ukuleles and dancing...

There was very little to see in Darwin, and we weren’t sure why we’d stopped there. But there were great skies...

Next: Across the Timor Sea towards Indonesia. The trip is about to get really exotic! #
